Political Jokes of the Third Reich

Those jokes were told by Germans during the Nazi dictatorship. They became darker as the war prolonged. The interesting part is how ordinary Germans judged their leadership and how much they knew what was going on. We shouldn’t forget that it was very risky to tell these jokes and that punishment was randomly. One could get away with a warning while the next could be sent to the scaffold. I find it important to preserve these jokes for they tell us a lot about the attitude of this time. This is my second attempt to post this video. I had to remove my first one due to copy right claims. The song I used is “Veronika, der Lenz ist da!” by the Comedian Harmonists.

@CytotoxicTrev Indeed. They also used “My dog jumps that high” or “The Mountains are this high.” Today it’s used by Neonazis to disguise their not? too noble attitude.

  2. CytotoxicTrev says:

One I read was that people would greet each other (presumably in private) with the Nazi salute but instead of “Heil? Hitler” they would say “The snow stood this high”

    @KniffoKnollo Das? stimmt.

  4. KniffoKnollo says:

similar jokes the people told each other in? east-germany (cold war) about the communistic regime…

  5. DrGull1888 says:

    @rlohmann1 Possible. It would? fit.

  6. rlohmann1 says:

    (to DrGull1888)

    Probably Werner Finck.?

@sailor61177 Oh yeah. They also mocked Göring with his daughter’s name, Edda. They said Edda is the short form of “Ewiger Dank dem Adjutanten”? which means “Eternal gratitude to the adjutant”.

I do not recall the man’s name, but a German comedian got into trouble when he was talking about Goering’s new baby. He said something about “Sein oder? nicht sein”, which mean either “To be or not to be”, or “His or not his”.

Possible. I heard it the first time from my grandpa and later from a school? teacher. Both claimed that this was an original Franconian joke. Later, I read this joke was originally brought up by “Kleines Theater” in Berlin. But nevertheless Beldemer Lippert is possible as origin.

The “joke” at 2:47 origins from “Lippats Josef”, an Original of Hunsrück, told us father, who has been raised there. A poor old monger of little things, wandering from village to village. He carried the stuff at the left and right hanging from a wooden “Joch” placed over his shoulders. I was born 2 years after the war and in? holydays in the village of grandmother I saw him, getting angry because the boys teased and chaffed him. He took stones and threw them in their direction.

yes, they were lucky. But probably their mother couldn’t make it.?

  12. DrGull1888 says:

What a shame. At least they? didn’t end on the cinder pile.

  13. nunctecognovi says:

the Trio Lescano too had serious problems with the race laws because they were? jewish. They went to South America and continued to sing over there.

  14. brooktagging says:

quite funny really.? thanks for another interesting and thought provoking video.

  15. DrGull1888 says:

Interesting, Germany also had some non German stars in those days. E.g. Zara Leander was Swedish, Lillian Harvey? was English, Marik Rökk was Hungarian, Johannes Heesters was Dutch.
The Comedian Harmonists were 6 buddies from Berlin. The band dispanded due to Nazi Germany’s race laws.

  16. nunctecognovi says:

The Trio Lescano were three Dutch sisters that? used to sing in Italian in the thirties and forties. The lyrics of their songs are silly too but I like their voices. Probably every country has its own Commedian Harmonists

  17. DrGull1888 says:

Possible. This Easy Listening-Music didn’t change much between the 30ies and 50ies. I presume Ma Le Gambe and Maramao are from the 50ies, aren’t they? The two I mentioned? were from the 30ies. I find their silly lyrics proper to the subject and the pictures of my video.

  18. nunctecognovi says:

I think both of them are beautiful, they remember to me other old songs like: MA LE GAMBE and Maramao by trio lescano and Enzo Aita.?

  19. DrGull1888 says:

I used first “Ich wollt, ich wär ein Huhn” performed? by Lillian Harvey. But this song is owned by WMG and youtube blocks every soundtrack which is owned by WMG. My videos don’t work without soundtrack and therefore I removed it. A pity, it had almost 400 views.
In the actual version I used “Veronika, der Lenz ist da”, performed by the Commedian Harmonists.

  20. nunctecognovi says:

why did you have to remove it? Anyway the music is beautiful as well? in this video. What is the title of the song?

  21. DrGull1888 says:

Thanks a lot. A pity? I had to remove the first one for the music was better.

  22. nunctecognovi says:

    very funny?
